DESCRIPTION

In a healthy democracy, the "public square" is a sacred space where order meets liberty. However, for decades, the interpretation of the Public Order Act has often been a point of friction between the state's duty to maintain peace and the citizen's constitutional right to assembly. To address this, Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI), reviewed the Public Order Act, convened and presented the report on her findings at the Multi-Stakeholder Roundtable to Strengthen Civic Space Advocacy and Media Engagement. This forum brought together a diverse cohort of civil society leaders, media professionals, security agencies, and legal experts to move beyond confrontation and work toward a collaborative pathway for reform.
